Goal and results
Among all activities that can be mediated by videoconferencing tools, remote cooking is one of them. It is performed especially by those who are geographically distant from close friends and family. Some studies mention that the current videoconferencing tools, e.g., Zoom, Skype, etc., are not designed to support those types of social practices. Thus, there is room to develop tools that better serve the needs of those users. However, there is not enough research about that particular use. The goal of this project was to investigate that practice and propose guidelines that could support designers to propose enhancements or new artefacts aimed at cooking remotely with friends or family.
This project resulted in 7 guidelines that discuss recommendations related to action automation, hands-free inputs, privacy concerns, memories of shared experiences, screen content, relaxing moments and conjoint activities.
